π― How High Value Alerts Work
Automatic detection of exceptional award flight deals
What It Does
The system automatically detects exceptional award flight deals while you use the Planner and Suggestions tools. When you search for flights, it checks each result against strict value criteria in the background.
If your itinerary qualifies as "high-value," it's automatically saved to your Alerts page so you can review it later and make sure you don't miss out on an incredible redemption opportunity.
π High-Value Criteria
An itinerary is flagged as "high-value" if it meets either of these conditions:
Example: 50,000 points for a flight worth Β£800 = 1.6 PPP β
Example: 10,000 mile flight for 100,000 points = 0.10 MPP β
πΎ How It Works
- Automatic Detection: Every time you plan an itinerary in the Planner or Suggestions tool, the system automatically calculates PPP and MPP for that route
- Smart Caching: If the itinerary qualifies as high-value (meets either criterion above), it's automatically saved as a high-value alert
- Last 3 Kept: Only your most recent 3 high-value finds are retained. Older alerts are automatically removed to keep the list fresh
- View Anytime: Check the /alerts page to see your saved high-value finds with full details including points, fees, PPP, and MPP
π Real Example
β This would be flagged as high-value because PPP < 1.0!
The itinerary would be automatically saved to your alerts, showing you're getting exceptional value on this long-haul Upper Class redemption.
π§ Future Enhancement
Email Notifications (Coming Soon)
Currently, high-value alerts are stored for you to view on the Alerts page. In the future, we plan to send email notifications when exceptional deals are detected, so you never miss a great redemption opportunity!
π‘ Tips for Getting High-Value Alerts
- Focus on long-haul premium cabins: Upper Class and Business Class on routes over 5,000 miles often trigger high-value alerts
- Use your vouchers wisely: Companion vouchers can dramatically reduce PPP, making more itineraries qualify as high-value
- Check during off-peak periods: BA's off-peak pricing (lower points requirements) often results in better PPP values
- Compare both airlines: Virgin Atlantic's median pricing can sometimes offer better value on the same routes
- Plan multi-leg journeys: Sometimes breaking up a trip into segments can reveal hidden high-value opportunities
